What Customers Say About First Alert Public Alert Radio with S.A.M.E:

We have been very pleased with the radio. We especially like the feature where you can program the counties nearby in addition to our home county.

The radio had two instruction booklets -- both in Spanish, which I can't read. Fortunately I was able to download the instructions in English from the manufacturer's web site. Without the instructions I would never have been able to configure and use the radio.Once this hurdle was over, however, the radio has worked fine and I have been very pleased with it. We have had several severe thunderstorm and cyclone alerts and it has reported them in a timely manner.Suggest Amazon check our the instruction booklet situation, and if resolved I would recommend the purchase.

I also like that it has three small indicator lights: one for advisory, watch, and warning that, once activated, stays lit for the length of the alert (very helpful if you were not home or were outside when it went off). but it is the best I've owned thus far (and not the most expensive one, either). If I see that the Warning light is lit, I push LIsten to hear the current weather. Only CON is that it is not portable like my smaller Oregon Scientific which is the size of a walkie talkie, but what it lacks in portability it makes up for in functionality. We live in central NC, so we were getting alerts from nearly the entire state and Virginia (scary siren, diving dog. I found a spot for it that is central to all of the rooms of the house and played with the volume to make it loud enough to hear when it goes off but not blast you out of the house loud. Off or on, that was it.

It can be set quite loud if you want/need that. It's pretty compact. It was very easy to set up, including the SAME codes. And finally, I comparison shopped on the Web, and Amazon had the best price.

This is not my first weather alert radio. Since setting it up, we've had severe thunderstorm and flood watches and warnings all over the state every evening, and it's reliably only gone off for the counties we have programmed in with SAME codes (and not the ones we don't). Before we were getting alerts from quite far away, so it went off all the time. not good). I particularly like that you can control the alert siren, including when it goes off and the volume. I bought rechargeable batteries on sale and it's ready to go. Perfect for our house. Very easy.

Just follow the book, look up your SAME codes on the Web (or call the 800 number), and you can set it up in about 5-10 minutes. Our older one had an extremely loud siren that terrified our dog and sent her diving under furniture, and you could not adjust it at all. Having the option of alkaline or rechargeable batteries is also very nice. With Prime free 2-day shipping, it was a good deal and arrived quickly.

Especially in the spring, we get a lot of violent weather and this radio has gone a long way toward giving us advance warning. This is the second of these I have purchased. This one is a gift for my daughter and her family and I bought it because the one I bought last year has given such great service. The sound is good and the reception excellent. I have it programmed to only react to warnings for my county, so we don't get a lot of false alarms.

The ability to customize alerts is great. This Weather Radio works very well. The dual alarm is a plus. Well worth the price. Instant weather reports feature is helpful.
